What to Do in Case of an Accident with a Rental Car
In the event of an accident involving a rental vehicle, you should first remain calm and check for any injuries. If the accident does not pose a risk to human health, certain steps can be taken depending on the nature of the accident.
If another vehicle is involved in the accident, you must obtain copies of the other driver’s driver’s license and vehicle registration, as well as a copy of the vehicle’s traffic insurance policy. In addition, an accident report must be prepared. During this process, photographs of the damaged areas of the vehicles should be taken.
In the event of an accident involving a rental car, you should call the traffic police without moving the vehicle from its position. Afterwards, an official accident report must be issued and an alcohol test report must be obtained. If the accident occurs near a police or gendarmerie station, you should go to the station to have a witness report prepared, or alternatively, request law enforcement officers to come to the scene.
